Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Amazon Synopsis: Cas Lowood is no ordinary guy - he hunts dead people.
People like Anna. Anna Dressed in Blood. A beautiful, murderous ghost entangled in curses and rage. Cas knows he must destroy her, but as her tragic past is revealed, he starts to understand why Anna has killed everyone who's ever dared to enter her spooky home.
Everyone, that is, except Cas..
When you read the synopsis of this book you do not think you will be both terrified and heartbroken by the end of it. May have made a mistake by reading it in the summer and not saving it for the spooky October festives but at the same time that may have freaked me out more and this book already did a good job of that. In fact, I read a few chapters of this book alone in the middle of the night and managed to freak myself out so much I had to put it down until morning... despite the slight addiction I had formed to the story.

This book follows a teenager Dean Winchester - I mean Cas Lowood- as he hunts the ghosts that are stuck on earth with some serious problems. When he moves to a new town after hearing the ghost tale of the famous "Anna Dressed In Blood" it soon becomes apparent that though everything seems to be as it appears it might not be as easy as he wants trying to get the end result he usually gets. Mostly because of the telepathic guy and popular girl he accidentally befriends.

Within the first chapter it is clear that Cas is no stranger to killing murderous ghosts grusomely. That is something I did not expect. Yes there is a large "do not read if you are small and fragile" sticker on the front of the book but I figured it was for decoration. You know, for the effect and all that. Nope. It is actually incredibly gory and scary once you open the first page. Kendare Blake, wonderful yet I am suspecting slightly disturbed author of this series, managed to give suspense, gore, fear and mystery to this novel. At multiple points I actually wondered where this book was going and was sure that there was no where to go but then it was like a slap in the face with a new piece of plot.

There is even a little romance in here but it was more the secondary romance I was feeling. Feeling so much. Literal OTP material in there. Not much else can be said without spoiling it. The love sometimes worked and sometimes made me think "how is that possible?" but in the end it came together and was not that much of a main character device anyway.

Overall this book was a well written horror book with a protagonist that was bad ass and some human sidekicks that actually acted like human beings i.e. they were relatable and not just overly fictional. I highly recommend this for a Halloween read or if you like creepy books or if you don't like creepy books but want to try some. It is like the beginners guide to horror fiction... I think.
